Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected. Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this: Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main screen.įrom the menu bar. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. If you use FileVault 2, select Disk Utility, then select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another drive icon. You may be prompted to select a language, then the OS X Utilities screen will appear. Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal. The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. exec chflags -h nosappnd, noschg, nosunlnk, nouappnd, nouchg + 2>&. If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.Įnter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste): Please back up all data before proceeding. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. This procedure will unlock those files and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. I recommend that you defer this step until the hardware fault has been repaired. You can fix it, but that won't solve the problem. I will post any other relevant info as requested, if somebody's willing to help. I used etrecheck and nothing significant showed, and also used one of scripts to test the system (unfortunately I'm not really capable of understanding completely the results, but maybe something's “locked”…).Ĭonsole is spammed with messages, especially at startup but not only, regarding spotlight, mds, xpc… My new iMac literally crawls at startup: before being “usable” it takes whole 5 mins to present the desktop and startup items (I have only dropbox, 1Password, littlesnitch and Alfred enabled, and I cleaned all older startup and login items user and system-wide) after this the iMac is working fine, even if it's not lightning fast i have to say (seems like a little lag is present for each new task: opening applications, files and so on).Īs soon as the iMac starts a time machine backup is also automatically started. I recently switched from a late 2006 iMac (10.7.5 installed) to a brand new late 2013 iMac (with el capitan) via migration assistant.
